Be aware though: Only you know why you are writing your site. If it is because you have information that you wish to share or a product you wish to sell, then keep that focus in mind. My reasons — to share what I am learning, to learn more about my own personal finances, to be accountable to someone for maintaining my new system of personal finance — have led me to reject joining certain offered programs. I will not disparage programs, but, I was given an opportunity to try a “training program” for 14 days. The free materials were very good and readable, but once i got closer to having to sign up, the posts started looking very much like a sales pitch for a “pyramid” scheme.
If you opt for one of the less expensive hosts you will need website design software. Unless you know html, that should offer a wysiwyg option to make it easier for you. You will also need some means of handling graphics and an ftp (file transfer protocol) software to enable you to upload files to your website.
Use copy and paste to help you create multiple webpages for your website. Rather than rewriting new code for each page, simply copy a main section of your code from the first page. You can then use this as the foundation for your next pages, making minor changes where needed. Doing this will save you a ton of time!
Use key phrases throughout your site as you design it. It is vital to bear in mind that your web design isn’t great because it is artsy, but because it persuades the visitor. You must determine what target group you wish to attract to your site. What type of language will your visitors respond to? Find three to five keywords and layer them throughout your design.
Then a MLM company that calls themselves SkyX (Not their real name) came to the scene. They were supposedly going to revolutionize the world of online business. They operated their business very much like a pyramid scheme, with their main products being a web design software, some learning tool and web hosting for one year that teaches one how to make websites. To me at that time, it was the product I was looking for. Being so very new to the Internet, I did not try to look at other options.
So far, I have submitted several articles to the Carnival of personal Finance, the Carnival of Investing and the Carnival of Debt Reduction. But, Carnivals exist on tons of topics, not just personal finance: so your website/blog articles need not be on a financial topic to find the carnivals useful. I even posted an article on the Carnival of Bumbling, Struggling Newbies, which i hope will grow as time goes on, because it is a good place for all of us newbies to join forces and support one another.
Make sure your site is browser compatible. Your web site should look good in Netscape as well as in Internet Explorer. Don’t stop designing your site as soon as you find that it looks great on IE. Usually Netscape gives some problems, especially when you try doing complicated HTML designs. But don’t give up too soon, usually with patience these problems can be easily fixed.
